A Dominican Coffee Shop Rooted in Juncalito Just Opened in Ridgefield Park

Most new coffee shops in Bergen County open with the same story. New machine, nice tile, menu copied from the last place that worked. La Campessina Coffee Shop opened in Ridgefield Park with a different story, and it starts about fifteen hundred miles away.

La Campessina is now open at 424 Teaneck Road in Ridgefield Park. It is a coffee and brunch shop built on Dominican tradition, and the centerpiece is the coffee itself: single origin beans sourced from Juncalito in the Dominican Republic. Juncalito sits up in the mountains of the Cibao region, coffee country, the kind of place where coffee is not a product line, it is how families have made a living for generations. That family connection is the heart of this shop. The concept, in their own framing, is bringing the flavors and traditions of the Dominican countryside to North Jersey, with coffee at the center of everything.

That matters because Ridgefield Park and this whole stretch of Bergen County is full of people who know exactly what that tastes like. North Jersey has one of the strongest Dominican communities in the state, and Teaneck Road runs right through the middle of it. For a lot of neighbors, a real Dominican cafecito is not a trend, it is a memory. Coffee brewed strong, taken seriously, made the way it is made back home. A shop built around single origin Juncalito beans is making a specific promise: this is not coffee with a Dominican label on the bag, this is coffee from a real place, from people who grew up around it.

The menu goes beyond the cup. La Campessina is serving brunch and cafe fare alongside the coffee, so this is a sit down and stay a while spot, not just a grab and go counter. Full menu details are still rolling out, and we will update this story as they lock in the hours and the opening week specials. What is confirmed is the schedule that matters most for a neighborhood cafe: they are open seven days a week.

Bergen County does not have a shortage of coffee shops. What it has a shortage of is coffee shops with a point of view. The chains will always be there, and the third wave spots with the minimalist menus will keep coming. La Campessina is doing something older and warmer. It is taking coffee from a mountain town in the Dominican Republic and pouring it five miles from the George Washington Bridge, in a shop named for the countryside itself. Campesino means the people who work the land. That is who grows this coffee, and it is clearly who this shop wants to honor.

If you are Dominican and homesick, you already know where you are going this week. If you have never had coffee grown in Juncalito, this is the easiest introduction you are going to get. Either way, Teaneck Road just got a little more interesting.

La Campessina Coffee Shop is open now at 424 Teaneck Road in Ridgefield Park, seven days a week.
