Salad House Is Coming to Jersey City
Jersey City's healthy lunch game is about to get a real upgrade. Salad House is opening its first Jersey City location at 15 Exchange Place, right near the Hudson River waterfront, and for the Exchange Place lunch crowd this is a big deal.
The New Jersey born chain was founded in 2011 by Joey Cioffi, who opened the first shop in Millburn. Fourteen years later there are 24 locations across the Northeast, and the brand is in full expansion mode. The Jersey City opening is expected sometime this fall, though no specific date has been announced yet.
The franchise owners are Patrick and Breanna Courtney, and this is their first business. They made the decision back in 2023, driven by knowing Cioffi, his business partner Jerry Eicke, and the corporate team, plus genuine belief in the business model.
"We just felt they had a really good cohesion with the type of goals, just in general, we have for our family," Breanna Courtney said. "What goes hand in hand with that is, of course, moving your body, eating right, enjoying the food you eat."
This isn't some outside operator dropping a franchise into a zip code they found on a map. The Courtneys lived in Jersey City for a year before moving to Clark in Union County, where Breanna grew up. Her maternal grandparents lived in Jersey City, and Patrick worked at the Hamilton Inn in downtown Jersey City for two years. They know the neighborhood because they lived it.
If you haven't been to a Salad House, the concept is simple and it works. Everything is made to order: salads, sandwiches, grain bowls, wraps, soups, and smoothies. The menu has its stars. The Big Macro salad stacks arugula, egg whites, chickpeas, cucumber, carrots, quinoa, almonds, and sustainable salmon. The Sweet Heat wrap brings breaded chicken, pepper jack, and Mike's Hot Honey with chipotle aioli, which is the kind of combination that keeps people coming back. The Very Berry smoothie keeps it simple with strawberry, blueberry, banana, and almond milk.
The Exchange Place area has no shortage of lunch options, but most of them are either a sad desk salad or a $22 bowl that leaves you hungry. Salad House sits in the sweet spot: fresh, customizable, fast, and priced for real life. That's exactly why the brand keeps growing.
