Juici Patties Is Opening Its First Bergen County Shop in Hackensack

Bergen County is about to get its first taste of Jamaica's biggest patty chain. Juici Patties is coming to 380 West Pleasantview Ave in Hackensack, where signage is already up at the storefront announcing the opening.

If you do not know the patty, it is a flaky, golden, hand made pastry filled with seasoned beef or chicken, served hot, often tucked inside soft coco bread. Juici built its name on it.

The chain's story starts in Jamaica, where founder Jukie Chin created his signature recipes in his mother's kitchen and sold his first patties out of his parents' grocery store. It grew into the largest patty restaurant in Jamaica, with more than 67 locations across the island.

The American push is led by Chin's son Daniel, and it is moving fast: more than 36 locations are open across New York, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania, and the Bronx shop set sales records in its first week last fall.

Hackensack is one of three New Jersey locations in development, with Newark and West Orange also on the way. Hackensack gets there first, and it lands in a county with no shortage of Caribbean food fans.

No opening date has been announced yet. Watch the Pleasantview Ave storefront, because when those doors open, the beef patty line forms fast.
